The World in a Room: Cultural Exchange Session

After several days of hearing research from around the world, this cultural exchange session invites delegates to spend time meeting the people behind the presentations.

IAFOR conferences bring together delegates from across countries, cultures, disciplines, and institutions. The World in a Room is an interactive session that celebrates this international community and creates space for delegates to meet, share perspectives, and reflect on the value of intercultural exchange.

After several days of hearing research from around the world, this session invites delegates to spend time meeting the people behind the presentations. Through guided conversation, audience interaction, and short delegate contributions, participants will have the opportunity to connect with others, learn more about the diverse backgrounds represented at the conference, and consider what international academic exchange makes possible.

Key Questions

Throughout the session, delegates will be invited to consider questions such as:

  • What has this conference helped you understand about another country, field, or perspective?
  • What is one thing about your own culture, city, language, or academic environment that you wish more international colleagues understood?
  • What is one conversation from this conference that changed how you think?
  • What is one thing that you see yourself taking home from this international conference experience?

The session is designed as a relaxed but purposeful networking opportunity with an intercultural focus. Delegates will be encouraged to speak with people they may not have met during the main programme, discover more about where others are from, and exchange personal, cultural, and academic perspectives in an open and welcoming setting.
