The presentation explores an innovative didactic approach in engineering education that centers on co-creating an educational board game with students. Rather than using games solely as learning tools, this project positions students as active contributors in the design and development of a game that simulates real-life engineering challenges. Working in interdisciplinary teams, students are responsible for developing gameplay mechanics, designing failure scenarios based on authentic technical problems, and selecting appropriate hardware and software components necessary for "repairing" in-game issues. The process not only reinforces students’ technical knowledge but also fosters collaboration, creativity, time management, and systems thinking—competencies that are increasingly vital in modern engineering practice. Additionally, the project promotes inclusivity and open access, as all game components are made available in printable, open-source formats, allowing adaptation to different disciplines, languages, and learning contexts. The educational game continues to evolve with input from new student cohorts, creating a sustainable and dynamic learning environment. This practice-based approach transforms the classroom into a collaborative design space and demonstrates how co-creation can become a powerful driver for engagement, deeper learning, and long-term knowledge retention in STEM education.
