This study examines the role of radio as a health communication tool for addressing health inequalities among people with disabilities in Southeast Nigeria. Despite global efforts to promote equitable healthcare access, people with disabilities continue to face significant barriers in obtaining accurate and timely health information, particularly in low- and middle-income countries where infrastructural and communication limitations persist. Guided by participatory communication theory, the study investigates how people with disabilities utilize radio for health information and evaluates the accessibility and inclusiveness of radio health programming. A mixed-method approach was adopted, involving a survey of 125 persons with visible physical disabilities across the five states of Southeast Nigeria and in-depth interviews with 12 radio producers responsible for health-related programmes. The findings indicate that radio remains a widely accessible medium that provides localized and culturally relevant health information through interactive formats such as phone-in programmes and community discussions. However, the study also identifies challenges including limited representation of persons with disabilities in programme production, irregular health programming, and technical barriers that affect access. The study concludes that inclusive and participatory radio programming can enhance access to health information and contribute to reducing health communication inequalities among people with disabilities.
