Session: Session 3

Presentation Type:Workshop Presentation
OECD and UNESCO have developed AI literacy and competency frameworks for primary and secondary education. However, an equivalent reference framework for higher education is still missing. At the University of Jyväskylä (Finland), we have created such a framework across three levels: bachelor’s, master’s, and doctoral studies, with a multidisciplinary approach. The framework has been built in a way that the master’s and doctoral levels are suitable for staff members as well. Building on the University of Jyväskylä's framework of ethical AI-competency goals in higher education, this workshop invites participants to explore and discuss how ethical AI-competency could be integrated into their own institution’s curriculum. The workshop is intended for higher education professionals who work with curriculum development. In the workshop, participants (1) will gain tools to identify existing AI-competences, gaps, and overlaps in their curricula, (2) will be able to reflect on their unit’s readiness to implement AI-competency in their teaching and curricula (3) will be able to phrase and integrate AI-competency goals into their curricula and (4) will be able to join international collaboration and network for future development of AI-competency goals. The workshop starts with a short introductory talk presenting the framework, followed by practical group work focusing on the main themes of the AI-competency goals. Our approach leans on sharing good practices and co-creating new ideas that will be collected into a digital template and discussed at the end. The participants will gain access to the template to use it in their curriculum development work.
